Also known as MTND1_ORYSI, ARD1, SIP2. Catalyzes the formation of formate and 2-keto-4-methylthiobutyrate (KMTB) from 1,2-dihydroxy-3-keto-5-methylthiopentene (DHK-MTPene). May play a role in recycling S-adenosylmethionine (SAM) for ethylene biosynthesis, which is competing with polyamines biosynthesis pathway for SAM substrate.
